Eid al Adha 1429 (2008)

November 30, 2008

al salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

today is, according to local scholars and mosques, the second day of dhul hijjah. i am, however, posting this today because i am aware that there are some who affirm today as the first including the likes of crescentwatch.org whom is affiliated with zaytuna institue. generally, i rely on them, or rather favor them, in my consideration for the lunar calendar (i’ve yet to master moon-sighting myself), but there seems to be an even divide between the sources i usually rely on (see below). in determing which date to follow, i decided to go with my local masjid for the sake of unity. their decision is also based on actual moon-sighting so they aren’t uncredible. see some links below for more information and recommended practices for the days up to eid al adha.

wa salam,

abd al Shakur
